FOO FIGHTERS

THE FOO FIGHTERS AT THE MEADOWLANDS  – The Foo Fighters have established themselves as one of the best rock groups around well before their new CD “In Your Honor” but for the first time in their ten year history they are selling out arenas. Not sure why it took so long for them to become such a formidable force in today’s not so stellar rock scene but it doesn’t really matter because they are simply a band who gets it. Dave Grohl who once pounded the skins for Nirvana is an exceptional front man and guitar player who plays with more than just intensity and heart. His showmanship has taken the FF’s to a new level, a place in which I think they will feel very comfortable in as one of rock’s elite acts.

The great songs just flowed out from the stage all night and Grohl’s stage presence combined with the tightness of the band created one hell of a ball of energy. They played a few songs off the new CD like "DOA" and "Best of You" but didn’t ram it down the audience’s throat. There were many highlights in the hour and a half set but after the Foo’s dedicated “Everlong” to Queen who were to play the same venue two nights later, Roger Taylor joined the band on stage and cranked out the Queen classic, “Tie Your Mother Down” which put the crowd into a state of eruption. So thanks to the Foo Fighters there are now about 10,000 new teenage Queen fans.

Weezer was a great opener because they are also a band on the rise that has a great new CD as well called Make Believe. After their set I realized how many great tunes they have as well and what was really fascinating is that  both front men from both bands left the spotlight for a song or two to play drums. I have never seen it and it was definitely a first for me and both guys from both bands can actually play, as we know Dave Grohl is an accomplished drummer and  Rivers Cuomo from Weezer didn’t do so badly himself. Well whoever put these two bands together should be rewarded as they both were excellent live. For more info go to www.foofighters.com and www.weezer.com
